Microsoft finally improves dark mode for Windows 10 Search

Switching between light and dark themes across Windows 10 has provided consistency issues with the overall visual appearance. While almost all first party software, including the Calculator app, the Calendar app, the Windows 10 Mail app, Windows Security, Microsoft Store, and others, have included support for Windows 10 dark mode, one glaring feature across Windows 10 did not – Windows Search.

If the settings on Windows 10 were switched over to dark mode, Windows Search would retain a bright white background in search results creating an inconsistency with the rest of the visual changes. An example of this can be seen above with the OS running a dark theme.

Windows Latest reports that Microsoft is now rolling out a new update in order to address the inconsistency. Now, when switching between light and dark themes, Windows Search will be able to produce results that appear with a dark background instead of the bright white background which creates more consistency across the dark theme in Windows 10. Even the integrated web searches powered by Bing can utilize the dark theme, creating a more unified visual experience.

Search results retrieved from settings, documents, and more, will now be able to reproduce a dark background to match the rest of the user interface.

The updates are reportedly rolling out to Windows 10 version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and later. It is being rolled out in staggered manner and may not be available across all devices yet.
