This month’s Social Security payments are scheduled to land in the bank accounts of most retired workers in the U.S. in mid-March at the earliest.
The same goes for many recipients of disability pay, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and survivors’ benefits who receive monthly instalments.
When will Social Security payments be made in March 2025?
Those eligible for Social Security payments are paid on one of three Wednesdays across each month in a system dependent on the recipient’s date of birth, with those born in the first third of each month set to be paid first.
This payment schedule begins on the second Wednesday of each month, meaning Social Security checks can be expected to land in accounts on March 12 for those born within the first 10 days of each month.
March 2025’s staggered Social Security payment schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, Mar. 12: Recipients born from 1st to 10th of month
- Wednesday, Mar. 19: Recipients born from 11th to 20th of month
- Wednesday, Mar. 26: Recipients born from 21st to 31st of month
Are there any exceptions to this Social Security payment timeline?
Yes – the three-Wednesdays payment system does not apply to long-term Social Security beneficiaries who began receiving their checks before May 1997.
Instead, this portion of recipients is paid on the third day of every month, regardless of their birthday, unless this date falls on a weekend or holiday.
Also, citizens on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a separate, needs-based program rather than contribution-based, are paid on the first of the month, except for weekends or holidays. For March, this payment was made on February 28 as March 1 fell on a Saturday.
Full details of the Social Security Administration’s payment schedule is available to view on the U.S. government agency’s website.
