Samsung could launch a rollable screen phone in 2025

Earlier this year, Samsung Display showcased an OLED display panel that can be rolled into a smaller form factor. Samsung could actually end up launching a phone that uses such a rollable OLED screen. Although there have been several rumors about the South Korean firm having plans to launch such devices, a new rumor claims to know more about the first such device.

Tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) claims that Samsung will launch a phone with a rollable OLED screen sometime in 2025. If this information is somehow correct, the company could unveil the phone alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the second half of the year. The tipster claims the rollable screen phone has an improved UPC (Under Panel Camera), which means it won’t have any cutout for the front-facing camera. The device is also claimed to feature zero bezels, which could mean it would have an edge-to-edge display. Not much else is known about this rumored device.

After nearly perfecting the Z-shaped foldable form factor with the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold series, the company may be looking at more such innovative form factors for mobile devices, including phones that could be transformed into tablets with rollable screens and dual-folding screens. The company is also rumored to be working on a device that has two hinges and can turn from a phone into a tablet.

Coming back to the rollable OLED screen, the panel showcased by Samsung Display could expand to a 12.4-inch display when required. It has a built-in motor that rolls and unrolls the flexible OLED screen. Samsung has several patents around technologies that could be used in foldable and rollable screens.
