Bed Bath & Beyond, facing bankruptcy and string of store closings, stops accepting coupons

The time to use that stash of blue Bed Bath & Beyond coupons is now.

The home goods chain filed for bankruptcy protection Sunday after failed turnaround efforts and began its wind down process while still looking for a buyer for all or some of its businesses.

Bed Bath & Beyond will stop accepting coupons on Wednesday, when store closing sales kick off, according to the company’s website. (It’s unclear how long the sales will last.)

The company’s 360 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and 120 buybuy BABY locations will remain open and customers can continue shopping online, as the company begins to close the business.

Why did Bed Bath & Beyond declare bankruptcy?

Bed Bath & Beyond, which was founded in 1971, has been warning of a potential bankruptcy since early January and had announced a series of job cuts and store closures in the past year.

The beleaguered home goods retailer has experienced a decline in sales and struggled to attract shoppers in recent years.

Can I still use Bed Bath & Beyond 20%-off coupons?

You have until Wednesday to use Bed Bath & Beyond coupons.

The bankruptcy filing means the end of the iconic big, blue coupon. In 2020, the company said it would scale back on its coupon program in an effort to boost profits, according to reports.

If you’re a member of the rewards program, you’ll have until May 15 to redeem your Welcome Rewards, but you won’t earn any new rewards on purchases, the company said. The paid memberships are not eligible for refunds.

Can I still use gift cards?

You can use your gift card through May 8. And you can redeem merchandise credits until May 15.

Can I make returns or exchanges?

Bed Bath & Beyond will accept returns and exchanges (in accordance with its usual policies) for items purchased before Wednesday until May 24.

All purchases during the store closing sales will be final.
