T-Mobile will soon make a drastic change to its line of internet plans as it benefits from a growing consumer trend that is hurting cable giants.
In T-Mobile’s third-quarter earnings report for 2025, the company revealed that it welcomed 560,000 new broadband customers during the quarter, representing a 34% year-over-year increase.
The influx of new internet customers occurs during a time when more Americans are switching internet services due to recent price hikes.
How U.S. consumers are responding to rising internet prices:
-
About 43% of consumers said the cost of their internet service increased the most in 2024 compared to other home services.
-
The average price hike for internet services was $20.78 per month.
-
Additionally, 59% reported feeling misled by the pricing or terms of their internet plan.
-
Nearly 3 in 4 people canceled, downgraded or considered switching internet providers due to high prices.

Many consumers are flocking to fixed wireless internet (also known as 5G home internet), which provides internet access to remote or underserved areas.
Although it isn’t faster than traditional internet service, it is typically sold at fixed rates that are more affordable, with no additional fees for installation or equipment. Phone carriers such as T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T all offer fixed wireless internet.
“A 5G fixed wireless service is probably not for everyone, but more and more this technology has gained a reputation as a practical, useful, and cost-effective home internet option,” said Peter Holslin, managing editor at Reviews.org, in the survey.
As this trend grows, cable giants such as Spectrum lost a whopping 109,000 internet customers during the third quarter this year, while Comcast’s Xfinity lost 104,000.
T-Mobile refreshes home internet plans
Amid the surge in demand for fixed wireless internet, T-Mobile is updating its 5G Home Internet plans, introducing several significant changes that will take effect on Nov. 13.
According to a press release shared with TheStreet, T-Mobile’s mid-tier internet plan, Amplified, will now include a Wi-Fi 7 gateway, which promises customers faster speeds, improved range, lower response delays, and a stronger ability to juggle multiple connected devices. T-Mobile is the first fixed wireless internet provider in the U.S. to offer this hardware.
Even with the addition of the Wi-Fi 7 gateway, the pricing of Amplified will remain the same at $45 per month (with autopay and any T-Mobile voice line activated).
Additionally, T-Mobile is introducing the Wi-Fi 7 gateway to its highest home internet tier, All-In, at no extra cost. The plan costs $55 per month (with added discounts) and includes free Hulu and Paramount+ subscriptions as well as a mesh Wi-Fi extender for whole-home coverage.
All-In customers will also be granted the ability to upgrade their Wi-Fi modem after three years.
To attract even more home internet subscribers, T-Mobile is also offering a $300 virtual prepaid card to customers who switch to 5G Home Internet for a limited time.
The move from T-Mobile comes shortly after the company added 24/7 tech support to its Amplified plan in August, a perk that was previously exclusive to All-In customers.
T-Mobile is facing growing competition
T-Mobile is making its internet offerings more generous during a time when it faces heightened competition as fixed wireless internet sign-ups spike nationwide.
During the third quarter of this year, AT&T welcomed 270,000 new AT&T Internet Air (its 5G home internet) customers, while Verizon added 261,000 new fixed wireless internet customers.
Despite recent growth among its competitors, a recent survey from J.D. Power found that more consumers appear to be more satisfied with T-Mobile’s fixed wireless internet service.
Fixed wireless internet consumer satisfaction rates:
-
Over the past six months, wireless internet providers experienced a 15% increase in new sign-ups, while wired internet providers saw a 6% increase.
-
Overall satisfaction is higher for wireless internet, with a score of 647 (on a 1,000-point scale), compared to 554 for wired.
-
T-Mobile ranks highest in wireless internet nationally, with a satisfaction score of 663, while AT&T falls in second place with a score of 625, and Verizon with 623.

“The internet landscape is clearly evolving, with continued rising customer satisfaction and continued strong customer service performance in wireless service,” said Carl Lepper, senior director of technology, media and telecom intelligence at J.D. Power, in a press release. “The high satisfaction we are seeing in the wireless internet segment is attributed to internet speed, availability and the hassle-free ability to start service, combined with a lower price. Additionally, with more provider options, customers are able to choose the service that best fits their lifestyle.”
