The timing of each month’s Social Security payments lets United States citizens know when they get their benefits. And the usual is to get a retirement check and, at most, an extra Supplemental Security Income payment.
However, sometimes we encounter certain irregularities that cause us to see as many as three different checks from the Social Security Administration in the same month. While it is true that these three checks are not for the same benefit, it is also true that a retiree can get them without any problems.
How to get three Social Security checks in May?
The biggest change in the Social Security payment schedule is none other than the possibility of collecting three checks within the month of May. In order to do so, the main requirement is to have both the retirement check and the Supplemental Security Income payment.
In addition to this requirement, it is also mandatory to have Direct Deposit activated. This collection method is immediate, which means that the moment the Administration sends the Social Security check, it appears in the checking account without having to wait.
By meeting these three requirements, we will be able to get three different payments in the month of May. Two of those checks will be from Supplemental Security Income itself. The third check will be the retirement itself. The SSI days will be the same for everyone, but the retirement payment day will depend on the conditions of each beneficiary.
When do the three May Social Security payments arrive?
Knowing the days of the two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks is easier than the retirement payments. The Social Security Administration will send these payments on the 1st and 31st of May. The payment on the 1st belongs to May, but the check on the 31st actually belongs to the June benefit.
Now that we know what days we will get our Supplemental Security Income payments, let’s move on to Social Security retirement payments. These checks will arrive on the 3rd, 8th, 15th or 24th of May. The exact day will depend on the conditions of each citizen.
The 3rd day payment is for retirees with benefits prior to May 1997. The checks on the 8th, 15th and 24th of May are for those retirees retired after May 1997. Depending on the birthday, we will get the payment earlier or later.
