The Social Security Administration (SSA) is in the middle of sending out November payments while preparing to send those that will be received in December. Next month, this process is a bit more complicated as some beneficiaries will receive two payments in December, one at the beginning and one at the end.
Who receives two checks from the SSA in December?
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will get two payments in December; payments are generally sent on the first day of each month except when the first day is a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.
Based on the given schedule, the SSA will release SSI benefits for December on the first day of that month. Additionally, a second payment will be sent on Friday, December 29. As January 1, 2024, is a holiday, the SSI payment will be advanced and sent on December 29, 2023.
A look at the 2024 COLA
As this payment is the first one for 2024, it is important to note that it will include an increase to account for the cost of living adjustment (COLA). The SSA has calculated the 2024 COLA to be 3.2%, which means that Social Security and SSI beneficiaries will see this increase reflected in their benefits.
The SSA has announced an increase in SSI payments for next year. Individuals will now receive $943 per month, up from the previous amount of $914. Couples will receive $1,415 each month in 2024.
Beneficiaries can receive their SSI payments via direct deposit if they have provided their bank account information to the SSA. Alternatively, payments can be sent by mail, but they may take longer to arrive. If you do not receive your payment on the expected date, the SSA advises waiting three days before contacting them to allow for additional shipping time.
