TikTok users are freaking out over an ‘amazing’ hack for saving money on laundry: ‘People really didn’t know this?’

What are off-peak electric hours, and how can they help you save money?

That’s a question thousands of TikTokers are now asking, thanks to a new viral life hack.

Of course, money-saving hacks are nothing new on TikTok. In the past, users have shared their tips for scheduling cheaper Uber rides, getting free food from McDonald’s and earning easy discounts for flights.

This latest trick, from user Ingrid Cortez (@ingzthinks), shows that you can even save money on something as simple as laundry. You just have to know your off-peak electric hours.

“Did you know your electric company charges you less if you do your laundry in certain hours?” Cortez asks in the video.

As Cortez explains, almost every company has a list of off-peak hours, during which electricity use is lower. If you do your laundry during those time periods, you’ll pay less for the electricity you use.

Cortez added that you can find the hours for your provider by searching the company’s name and adding “off-peak hours.”

Sometimes, these hours will be late at night or early in the morning. For example, the “super off-peak” electric hours for Georgia Power (this editor’s power company) are between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

TikTok users were largely excited about the hack. Commenters called it “fascinating” and “amazing.”

“People really didn’t know this?” one user asked.

“Never knew this, thank you so much,” another added.
