The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Health System launched its new UCI Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Diagnostic Medicine last week.
The center will serve as a common space for UCI faculty, physicians and researchers to collaborate on translating AI-based concepts into clinical tools, according to a July 26 UCI Health release.
The center will be led UCI School of Medicine neuroradiologists Peter Chang, MD, and Daniel Chow, MD, with the goal to develop machine learning tools and apply deep learning neural networks to diagnostic applications, disease prediction and therapy planning to improve outcomes and lower costs.
“Our goal is to empower health care providers, researchers and patients through the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare,” Chang said in a prepared statement.
