Some Social Security recipients will see a payment schedule change for the end of 2024 and the start of 2025.
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, typically receive their payments on the first of each month. However, because Jan. 1 is New Year’s Day and a holiday, the payments will be made on Dec. 31, 2024, instead.
People who received Social Security payments before May 1997 or receive both SSI and Social Security will receive SSI on Jan. 1 and Social Security on Jan. 3.
SSI beneficiaries include older adults with very low incomes and people with disabilities. The maximum monthly payment for 2025 is $967 for an individual or $1,450 for a couple.
Payment date changes in 2025
A similar payment change will take place at the end of January 2025 when SSI will be paid on Jan. 31 due to the first of the month falling on a Saturday (Feb. 1). The same change will take place for March’s SSI payment, which will be paid on Friday, Feb. 28, due to March 1, 2025, falling on a Saturday.
April and May 2025’s SSI payments will be made on the first of each month but there will be two payments in May due to June 1, 2025, falling on a Sunday. Double payments will also be made in August 2025 (Aug. 1 and Aug. 29) because the normal payment day falls on Sept. 1, 2025, which is Labor Day.
Two SSI payments will be made in October 2025 – Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 – because Nov. 1, 2025, is a Sunday. December 2025’s payment will be made on the regular Dec. 1 date.
